This prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy tells the tale of Bilbo Baggins as he discovers "the Ring" of power and uses it to help his friends fight a dragon. Readers of the book may be disappointed as the film condenses things rather severely, however, as children's films go, it is quite a nice introduction to Middle Earth. (There is also an animated version of the Lord of the Rings, told over the course of two films. But while the first part is intriguing, part two, done by a different director in a completely different animation style, departs from the book and is simply pathetic.)
