This is both funnier and sadder than the 1994 version. It's a great one to watch and discuss the concept of Christian charity - do we only give from our excess, or when the need is there do we give even when we too are fairing poorly? Those who have read the book will be able to follow everything but those that haven't may prefer the more accessible modern rendition. (A 1933 rendition stars Katherine Hepburn as Jo but the acting is a bit over the top. A better bet is a 1940 film of the sequel book Little Men).
